Quantitative changes of telomeric heterochromatin in A188 somaclones

C-banding patterns were compared in the root tip mitotic cells of inbred A188 and SC2 seedlings obtained as described by Dolgykh et al. (MNL, this issue). While the structural patterns (distribution of C-heterochromatic blocks) did not change within investigated samples, there were significant quantitative variations within groups of sibs as to the amount of telomeric heterochromatin (Fig. 1).
