Effectiveness
of two restriction enzymes for detecting RFLPs in the Iowa Stiff Stalk
Synthetic (BSSS) maize population
--E.A. Lee, M. Lee, K.R. Lamkey and
W.L. Woodman
BSSS progenitor and derived inbred lines
were examined at 58 RFLP loci with single digests of EcoRI and HindIII.
In all groups of inbreds, a higher percentage of clones detected polymorphisms
when tested with HindIII digests (Table 1). Also, the average size
of the restriction fragments detected with HindIII seems to be lower
molecular weight than those observed with EcoRI digests, suggesting
a higher frequency of HindIII recognition sequences in BSSS germplasm.
