Waxy marker pencils are used routinely in maize genetic analysis to
assist accurate counting. The marker is difficult to remove and creates
certain problems in photography if the maize ear or kernel is to be photographed.
Recently, we found an alternative but also efficient way to mark the maize
kernels simply by using the ink marker pens of various colors available
on common market. The ink marker can be easily removed by any type of tissue
paper shortly after the counting. Therefore, unlike the waxy marker pencil,
the ink marker pen leaves no problem for photography.
