The near isoline pg11 pg11 pg12 pg12 was more resistant to smut than its corresponding near isolines Pg1 Pg11 Pg12 Pg12, Pg11 Pg11 pg12 pg12, and pg11 pg11 Pg12 Pg12, in 1981 and 1984 (Table 1). In spite of this, we observed that some detasseled plants pg11 pg11 pg12 pg12 showed smut in the damaged area. In 1982 and 1983 none of the near isolines were affected.
