Chromosomal studies in callus cultures

Preliminary cytological studies of root, endosperm and glume calli have shown significant variations in ploidy levels. Root calli have shown 96% of diploid cells; endosperm calli have shown 700% triploids with 9-20% diploids and 5-10% haploids. The glume calli exhibited differences in chromosome number from 11-28, with a greater frequency of hypoploids.
