Genetical analysis shows that both groups a and b carry the genes Y₁Y₁Y₃Y₃. In the first group the varieties Colorado Cuarenton were tested; in the second group the varieties Amarillo Comun and Amarillo Enans. The difference in color between groups a and b is due to modifying factors. Long White Flint, the only variety of white endosperm tested, has the genotype y₁y₁Y₃Y₃.
