5. A selfed plant of Amargo produced, from 50 seeds, 22 normal plants and 7 dwarf plants with bifid leaves and the midrib prolonged into a conspicuous awn, like the flowering glume of Aveneae. The character is called aristifolia and its genetic symbol is given as af. The aristifolia character is not known in grasses, so far as I am aware, except in a small genus of Mexican grasses (Jouvea), the taxonomic position of which is uncertain.
